adding new modules

is it possible for us to add our own modules to the php build with the VDS?
and recompile our php? i've not compiled php so any guides would be helpful.

i'm looking to add pspell as a spelling checker for my mailiing list management software. and maybe write a hack for our forum software. not that it wouild help our l33t speaking visitors.
