Trying to make grep work in the Control Panel

I login to the control panel and go to FileManager. In the "command" box it appears that grep is supported when I type in grep --help. When I try to execute a grep command I don't seem to get any results in a results window. Does grep work? If yes, can you give an example of the command beyond what's shown in the help that would echo the results to the screen?

I logged into my File Manager from my control panel and ran a couple of grep commands and all of them seemed to work perfectly fine. It worked if I was running it on a file in the current directory from the file manager, or if I used the full path name. Are you sure you are running a command that returns a result?
