I am trying to install Open Webmail (openwebmail.org) on my VDS as it is far superior to NeoMail.

I am following the instructions in the readme file found here:
http://openwebmail.org/openwebmail/doc/readme.txt

I am running into some problems though and I am wondering if it is just not possible to install it on a VDS because too many things need to be upgraded and installed.

For example, while trying to install a newer CGI.pm, I run "make install" and get this:
Cannot forceunlink /usr/local/perl/lib/5.6.0/CGI.pm: Operation not permitted at /usr/local/perl/lib/5.6.0/File/Find.pm line 505
make: *** [pure_perl_install] Error 255

I have also found that lib iconv does not appear to be installed and when I run configure it says that my C compiler cannot create executables.

Can anyone provide any suggestions, answers, or direction?

Hey par117,

You might as well give it up :(

We have tried to install OpenWebmail and it just cannot be done in our VDS environment. The mail is too tightly integrated with our hosting software. We've tried to install IMAP, OpenWebmail, and it just cannot be done. Sorry for the bad news.

Got some Gmail invites if you are interested.

Chris,

Thanks for the information. Bummer that it can't be run.

I guess I will live with NeoMail till I come up with something better. Not that NeoMail is bad, but it could use a bit more functionality.

Thanx... Paul
