I've been looking at the downloads pages for MySQL 4.1 (clean install) and there are several downloads for Linux depending (it seems) on the processor:
MySQL downloads (http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.1.html)
Which version would be the best for a clean install on one of your servers?

Hi Leonie,
Linux (x86, glibc-2.2, static, gcc) is the one.
I will warn you...this is not easy. We do know how to install MySQL 4.1 inside a VDS and we do charge a one-time $50 fee for installing it. It takes some time to install it and figure everything out. Once you install MySQL 4.1, you CANNOT use the MySQL and PhpMyAdmin ValueApps in your control panel. They have to remain un-installed.

Chris,
Any word on when MySql 4.1 will be available as a ValueApp? There are some significant new features we need, such as utf-8 compatibility.

We haven't heard any word on when the MySQL ValueApp will be promoted to version 4+. I do know that they are working on it, but that does not necessarily mean it will be anytime soon. Having said that, for $50, we will install MySQL 4+ in your VDS. If it's important that you have this version, let us know, and we can arrange for it to be done. Let us know if you have questions.

Any update on this yet? 4.1 sure is nice.
I assume that I could still install PhpMyAdmin manually if I needed to after I paid you guys to install MySQL 4.1?
Thanks... Jeremy

Sounds like some folks have been able to install this within the VDS themselves. Can someone publish an outline of how to accomplish this? Version 3.23 of MySQL is really old now and many apps require V4, so this is a real drag.

I've been using PHP 5.0.4 for over a year now on my development system and like the new features.
When uploading code to my web site, I have to use PHP 4.3.10.
I'm tired of the gotchas.
Any chance at all of getting our environments up to speed?

Is this still true today whether you install MySQL 4.1 for me or not? Thanks!

Yes why would you need to? Since you can go to http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php and download phpMyAdmin and install it in under 5 minutes. Then of course you have MySQL 4.1.
If you have HardHatHosting.com do the custom install they install phpMyAdmin along with MySQL manually for you.
